The figure below shows a typical screen during an online tutoring session. The following can be identified from the figure:
- The area in a box surrounded by dashed lines is the area of the screen shared with the student from the tutor's computer (Any application may be used at anytime including Powerpoint or Internet Explorer).
- At the bottom of this dialog box are whiteboard tools to use similar to a chalk on a blackboard in a classroom.
- On the right is a video of the teacher (our Northeast Operations Manager) as seen by the student.
- The right volume slider below the tutor area indicates that voice is being received from the tutor (the application supports full, clear VOIP potentially helping to avoid incurring additional phone bills).

This is a complete online classroom application (not only chat or instant messaging) allowing the delivery of a full learning experience. Tutors and students can use this facility at no additional costs as opposed to having to register or log in to other real conferencing services such as LiveMeeting or Webex with associated costs. Inviting students into the online classroom is also staightforward and students that have previously received tutoring on TutorCentral are familiar with the features of the application. |
